Srishti – The Nature Club

SRISHTI – Nature and Environmental Club at Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology

Introduction to SRISHTI Club

Human beings are deeply dependent on nature for survival. From the water we drink, the fruits we eat, and the minerals we use, to the very air we breathe, every resource comes from the environment. Yet, in the pursuit of growth and comfort, mankind often forgets the duty of giving back to nature. Greed replaces need, leading to the exploitation and destruction of natural resources.

To address this critical concern and to cultivate responsibility among students, SRISHTI – The Nature and Environmental Club of Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology was founded. It is an initiative under the Alva’s Education Foundation that strives to remind students of their duty to conserve, protect, and nurture Mother Nature. Through a wide range of activities such as expert lectures, workshops, awareness campaigns, trekking expeditions, plantation drives, and environmental celebrations, SRISHTI provides a holistic platform to strengthen the bond between humans and the natural world.

Vision of SRISHTI Club

The vision of SRISHTI is to become a role model environmental club by introducing innovative, creative, and sustainable practices that protect and secure the future of Mother Nature. The club aspires to ignite young minds with a sense of responsibility and passion for the environment, ensuring they grow into environmentally conscious professionals and citizens.

Mission of SRISHTI Club

The mission of SRISHTI is to create awareness on pressing environmental issues and their impact on human life. By nurturing eco-consciousness, the club aims to instill values of conservation, sustainability, and stewardship in every student of Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology.

The club promotes hands-on activities and knowledge-sharing platforms that help students understand the importance of biodiversity, ecosystems, and green practices in building a sustainable future.

Objectives of SRISHTI Club

The objectives of SRISHTI are designed to educate, inspire, and engage students in environmental causes:

  • Conduct expert talks and workshops on environmental issues.

  • Sensitize students on urgent environmental challenges through audio-visual programmes.

  • Launch awareness campaigns via posters, art, and drawing competitions.

  • Organize trekking camps in nearby forest belts to connect with nature.

  • Lead tree plantation drives and rejuvenate degraded forest areas.

  • Celebrate World Environment Day (June 5th) to inspire eco-friendly practices.

Through these objectives, SRISHTI integrates both learning and action, making students not only observers but active contributors to environmental conservation.

Key Activities and Initiatives of SRISHTI

Massive Ocean Cleanup Program

On 22nd September 2019, SRISHTI members participated in a Massive Ocean Cleanup Program organized by Mantra Surf Club, Mulki. Nearly 75 student volunteers of Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology worked together to clean the seashore, collecting and segregating waste into categories like rubber, plastic, glass, and medical waste. This activity not only cleaned the coastline but also educated students about marine pollution and the harmful effects of plastic on aquatic life.

Guest Talk by Dr. Sanjay Gubbi

The academic year 2019–20 began with an inspiring inaugural session by Dr. Sanjay Gubbi, a renowned conservationist. The talk, attended by Mr. Vivek Alva, Managing Trustee of Alva’s Education Foundation, focused on “Saving Karnataka’s Natural Heritage.” Dr. Gubbi explained the significance of Karnataka’s biodiversity and the urgent need for conservation. His insights motivated students to take environmental issues seriously and encouraged active participation in preserving ecosystems.

Participation in 65th Vanyajeevi Saptaha

On 5th October 2019, 60 members of SRISHTI participated in the 65th Vanyajeevi Saptaha held at Karkala, Karnataka. Organized annually by the Forest Department of Karnataka, the program aims to spread awareness about wildlife conservation among youth. Students learned about the ecological role of wildlife and the importance of protecting forest habitats, which are vital for maintaining ecological balance.
