Nodal Centre for Spoken Tutorial Project

IIT Mumbai recognizes Alva’s Institute of Engineering & Technology as Nodal Centre for Spoken Tutorial Project

Launched by Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) under Government of India and funded by National Mission on Education through Information Communication, the Spoken Tutorial Project will now be conducted through its new nodal centre for Dakshina Kannada. Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology, Mijar has been selected as the nodal centre by IIT Mumbai for undertaking this initiative where training is offered on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and courses like LINUX, Python, Perl, BASH, GIMP, Blender for multimedia can be learned effectively through Spoken Tutorials.

The courses are both Skill-focus courses and Syllabus-focus courses. Another highlight of these courses is that the training, material and certificate are free of cost, thus enabling economically weaker sections to get high quality technical education.

A spoken tutorial is an audio-video based tutorial that explains an activity performed on the computer. An expert from IIT Mumbai explains the working of software by demonstrating it on the screen along with a running commentary. Screen cast software makes a movie of the entire activity- both the screen and spoken element.

Prof Harish Kunder, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, AIET has been appointed as the nodal officer for this project.
