Mergers & Acquisitions Simulation: A Creative Spin on Business Strategy
Time: 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Venue: MBA Seminar Hall
The Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Simulation was more than just a classroom exercise it was an electrifying experience that brought students face-to-face with real-world business challenges. Hosted in the MBA Seminar Hall, the event was designed to simulate the complex and high-stakes environment of corporate mergers, where students played the role of corporate strategists and brand innovators.
With a mix of curiosity and competition in the air, each team was assigned two seemingly unrelated products and tasked with the creative challenge of merging them into a single, cohesive business offering. The goal was to develop an innovative product idea that demonstrated synergy, market feasibility, and branding appeal, and then pitch it to a panel of judges acting as potential investors or board members.
Product Combinations by Team:
- Team 1: Fan & Shoes
- Team 2: Biscuits & Printer
- Team 3: Lipstick & Car Wiper Blade
- Team 4: Toilet Cleaner & Fruit Juice
- Team 5: Power Bank & Hair Oil
- Team 6: Trimmer & X-ray Machine
- Team 7: Detergent Powder & Cooking Oil
- Team 9: Car & Sunscreen
- Team 10: Slippers & Tea Powde
Each merger challenged participants to break conventional thinking and find synergies between diverse product categories. Some teams took a humorous angle, while others proposed genuinely feasible ideas that reflected an impressive level of creativity and market insight.
For instance, one team proposed a “smart cooling insole” combining fan technology and footwear for athletes; another introduced “printable biscuits” a tech-based novelty for customized cookie art. From lip-care windshield wipers to energy-infused tea slippers, the ideas were as outrageous as they were imaginative, embodying the spirit of entrepreneurial risk-taking.
Outcomes:
- Strategic Integration Thinking: Students learned how to position seemingly incompatible products through creative M&A logic.
- Innovation in Brand Synergy: Merging categories required fresh thinking on product design, packaging, and branding.
- Public Speaking & Investor Pitching: Teams pitched ideas confidently, many for the first time in front of a large audience.
- Team Collaboration Under Pressure: Fast-paced brainstorming fostered deep teamwork and spontaneous problem-solving.
- Understanding M&A in Real-world Business: Participants gained insight into the rationale behind corporate mergers, including value creation, diversification, and market capture.
- Enhanced Confidence & Creativity: The experience allowed even introverted students to shine, with several expressing surprise at their own performance.
Spontaneous cheers, intense huddles, and the sound of laughter filled the hall as students embraced the challenge with passion. The M&A Simulation wasn’t just a break from theory. it was a powerful platform for applying strategic thinking, creativity, and communication in a memorable and meaningful way.
